Lake Buena Vista, FL-- What a weekend of football in Orlando, Florida for the 2012 AAU Football League-Based National Championships Nov. 29- Dec. 3. The weekend was capped off with four national championship finals—8u-14u—starting at 11 a.m. on Sunday at the Citrus Bowl.
The day was highlighted under the lights for the 14u National Championship finals—the three-time defending champs, Volusia Titans, versus the Algiers Tigers of Louisiana.
The Tigers got off to a quick start, intercepting Volusia’s quarterback on the first drive and running it in for a touchdown to go up 6-0. The Titans respond quickly with several quick pass plays that covert into 8 points. It was an offensive battle for the remaining portion of the first half, with the teams going into the locker room tied at half time.
The second half proved to be no different. The Tigers would go up 42-32 with 7 minutes to go in the game after a quarterback sneak from the one yard line. But the defending national champs weren’t going to go down without a fight. The Titans strike back with a 35-yard bomb to pull within four and then recover the onside kick.
In the end, it’s the Algiers Tigers who would take the AAU Football 14u National Championship with a final score of 42-32. CLICK HERE to view the 14u Finals photo gallary!
In the preceding games, defending champs Apopka Raptors made their way back into the 8u National Championship final versus the Lake Nona Lions. It was a great battle on the field, but the Raptors offense proved to be too much for the Lions as they took their second national championship title 32-0. Central Virginia Elite and Westlake Bulldogs met at center field at 1 p.m. for the start of the AAU Football 10u National Championship game. At half, the Bulldogs went into the locker room with a 12-0 lead. In the second half Elite gave them a run for their money, but it was a reverse to the left that put the Bulldogs up 18-0 in the third quarter and solidified their national championship title. Bulldogs would go on to win 25-0. CLICK HERE to view the 10u Finals photo gallary!
In their second appearance of the day, Lake Nona Lions faced off versus the Seminole Sharks in the 3 p.m. 12u National Championship game. What a battle it was between the two teams. They would exchange scoring possessions through three quarters of play and went into the fourth quarter all tied up. With 4:50 to go in the game, Lions and Sharks would find the end zone, with the Lions converting their 2 point conversion to go up by one, 15-14. Then, with 2:56 to go, the Lions rushed up the gut for a 40-yard touchdown play and secured the AAU Football 12u National Championship Title. CLICK HERE to view the 12u Finals photo gallary!
