AAU Alumni and Texas A&M standout will join Texas AAU Youth Football League in hosting an AAU Football 7-on-7 Tournament and Skills CampKILLEEN, TEXAS (2022) – The Texas AAU Youth Football League will be hosting a 7-on-7 football tournament paired with a skills camp at the Lion Club multi-purpose fields in Killeen, Texas on May 14, 2022. Joining in on the event to share his knowledge will be AAU Alumni and Texas A&M standout, Jaylon Jones.
Jaylon is known throughout the community for his work ethic and outstanding achievements both on and off the field. Jaylon’s mindset shifted gears when he was introduced to track in the summer of 2012. This would his first time running track but it forever had an effect.
As part of the South Texas AAU Track Club, the Randolph Road Runners motto was to “Train hard, Win Easy” and that mindset has helped Jaylon in every area of his life. Jaylon was a multi-sport athlete, competing in AAU Football, AAU Track and Field, and AAU Basketball.
Jaylon was a notable player while he played AAU Football in the South Texas District. After completing two successful seasons, Jaylon was nominated as an AAU All-Star and played in the first Texas vs Arkansas AAU Battle of the Border game in December of 2013. Jaylon also ran with the Roadrunners Track Club until 2016. Jaylon competed in four AAU Track and Field Junior Olympics during his time with South District (2012 in Houston, 2013 in Detroit, 2014 in Des Moines, and 2016 in Houston).
He continued to run track and play football throughout middle and high school using all he learned in the consistent, competitive, high-level performance programs offered by AAU. From running in front of thousands at Junior Olympic to playing football at Cowboy’s stadium, the experiences taught Jaylon to have a different mindset – learn from shortcomings, make adjustments, and work to be better.
Jaylon achieved a lot while in high school. He was ranked as a 5-Star athlete by 247Sports and was the number 16 overall National recruit. He played in the 2020 Under Armour All-America Game, received multiple state and local awards, including being named the 1st Texas Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Football Trailblazer Award recipient for his hard work in the classroom and as a volunteer in his community.
Jaylon Jones would go on to join the Texas A&M Aggies after high school. Within his first two years at Texas A&M University in College Station, Jaylon was named the starting cornerback for the Aggies and started all 22 games. He has recorded 65 tackles, 3 interceptions, and 15 pass breakups. Jaylon was selected as the male “Newcomer of the Year” for his significant contributions during his freshman season. He also matched his on field play in the classroom room during his sophomore year by earning the 2021 October Scholar-Athlete of the month. He was also rewarded on the field as he earned the Defensive Attitude Award at the annual team banquet.
