AAU Alumni and Texas A&M Standout Holds His First Football Camp

AAU Alumni and Texas A&M starting cornerback joined AAU Texas Youth Football League to host his first camp on May 14, 2022
KILLEEN, Texas (May 18, 2022) – Jaylon Jones is entering his junior year with the Texas A&M Aggies and the starting cornerback is already giving back to the community that raised him. Jones partnered with the Texas AAU Youth Football League to host a 7-on-7 football tournament paired with a skills camp this past weekend.
A total of 101 athletes showed up to the Lion Club multi-purpose fields in Killeen, Texas on May 14, 2022. The athletes had the opportunity to learn from Jaylon Jones, who was once in their shoes as a kid playing Amateur Athletic Union football and having dreams of making it to college.
At Lions Club Park here, Jaylon and his family joined with the Texas AAU Youth Football League and a number of sponsors to host the J7 Skills Camp, where youth ages 7-14 were shown techniques and drills to play the game of football. Jones was also joined by fellow college athletes, including two other AAU alumni. Jones’ teammate at Texas A&M, Antonio Johnson, and Texas Christian University defensive-end, Landyn Watson took to the field with Jaylon Jones to share their knowledge of the sport. Lucas Coley, quarterback from the University of Houston, and Chux Nwabuko III, Texas Tech running back also joined the camp.
Jaylon was a notable player while he played AAU Football in the South Texas District. After completing two successful seasons, Jaylon was nominated as an AAU All-Star and played in the first Texas vs Arkansas AAU Battle of the Border game in December of 2013. Jaylon also ran with the Roadrunners Track Club until 2016. As part of the South Texas AAU Track Club, the team motto was to “Train hard, Win Easy.” Jones carries that mindset with him today.
Throughout the day, Jones had one very important message for all of the athletes in attendance. “Anything is possible and your biggest dreams can come true,” he said. “All you gotta do is put in hard work.”
Jones along with Rod Tanner, AAU Football National Committee Member and Governor of South Texas AAU, presented Kobe Burgess, a senior from Shoemaker High School, a $1,000 scholarship from the league. Burgess is set to attend West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas. Jones was the first recipient of the league’s scholarship, now he is doing his part to help the next generation of athletes.
